Did you know that today, April 9th, 2024, is International Be Kind to Lawyers Day? Wedged into the month of April between the 6th - Sorry Charlie Day (an unofficial holiday acknowledging that rejection is a common part of the human experience that touches us all), and the 11th – Submarine Day (to honor people who build and work on submarines, which one celebrates by eating a submarine sandwich!), International Be Kind to Lawyers Day is celebrated on the second Tuesday in April, with an aim to dispel the negative associations often ascribed to lawyers.
As one of the oldest professions in the history of humankind, lawyers are much maligned with the perception that they are a necessary evil, and they collectively charge obscenely high fees for their services. It is easy to forget how much work goes into mastering the law in order to represent just about all of us at one time or another.
This little-known observance attempts to remind society of the helpful and important role lawyers play in the pursuit of justice and a smooth functioning society. How to celebrate Be Kind to Lawyers Day? Send a thank you note to the lawyer in your life, treat them to lunch, or add some glowing reviews on their website. Flowers and candy are nice too!
To all of our alumni who are diligently serving those in need of expert legal advice, Happy Be Kind to Lawyers Day! All attorney jokes aside, you are much appreciated!
