The Fresno City Attorney's Office (CAO) seeks qualified attorneys for its Litigation Unit. Fresno is the fifth largest city in California, with over 4,900 employees, and 16 departments. Attorneys work under the direction of the City Attorney, who is appointed by the City Council. The CAO provides legal services to all City departments, staff, and elected officials for a very wide range of transactional, litigation, and code enforcement matters. The Litigation Unit of the CAO handles litigated cases involving claims of personal injury, wrongful death, use of force, civil rights violations, Fresno Municipal Code misdemeanor prosecutions; Public Records Act requests; and, issues related to City personnel and labor, including conducting administrative investigations. The Litigation Unit has also recently started a Wage Protection Program to enforce and prosecute California Labor Code violations within the City's jurisdiction.
Attorneys would be expected to either have litigation experience or be prepared to quickly develop litigation experience. In particular, the Litigation Unit is currently hiring attorneys to handle wage theft enforcement and prosecutions; in-house Risk litigation; and Fresno Municipal Code prosecutions. Qualifications would also include excellent legal writing, research, analysis, and communication skills. A high degree of maturity, creativity, judgment, and discretion is required. The CAO offers opportunities to be directly involved in numerous high profile, interesting, rewarding, and challenging projects. Many projects are novel and complex.
Attorneys are not represented and serve at the will of the City Attorney. Attorneys must be licensed to practice and in good standing in the State of California. Benefits are excellent, and salary is negotiable, depending upon qualifications.
The annual salary range for Deputy City Attorney II is $92,700 - $134,508 and Deputy City Attorney Ill is $104,472 - $147,972.
